The Weekends results were not as good as had been hoped with the A2’s and A3’s losing their semi final matches but the A1 reserves booked themselves a spot in the grand final against Greenock next week with a strong win over Truro. A1 res – The first XI played Truro at Eudunda oval on the weekend in their knock out semi final. After winning the toss Light Pass batted first and got off to a solid start despite Dimi Camo losing his wicket for 12. Dick Mattner and Steve Hill put on nearly 60 in their partnership before Dick was skittled for a well made 41. Steve Hill was travelling well but the difference in pace between the two Steve’s caused problems again and Hilly was runout for 30. Steve Gallasch was determined to make up for the runout and batted well with a couple of partners scoring 41 before he was caught. With Matty Mattner and Mick Braunack together at the crease the Rams fielders started edging back toward the fence but only one of the two guns fired as Mick was caught without bothering the scorers. Matty on the other hand took to the Rams attack scoring 51 and taking the total past the 200 mark in an excellent innings. Sam Rudiger chipped in with 15 runs and the lads reached 219 before being bowled out with a couple of overs to go. Defending 219 on the smallish Eudunda oval was going to require a good bowling effort and that’s exactly what the baggy greens trundlers served up, Tim Taylor was at his best bowling a consistent line and length and being rewarded with wickets, he finished with figures of 5/26 from 18 overs. Meanwhile at the other end Dimi Camilleri was fired up creating havoc in the Truro batting line up taking 4/25. The pair brought the Rams to their knees at one stage having them 5/21. Craig Todd finished the job off taking the last wicket and sending the boys in the baggy green to the grand final. The “Stockwell Hotel” man of the match was Tim Taylor. A2’s – The Wanderers played Angaston at Nuri on the weekend in their semi final but unfortunately couldn’t get the job done. Angaston batted first and after an early wicket Ango rolled the dice sending their slogger in up the order, sadly for Light Pass the ploy worked and despite some good bowling, intermittent boundaries kept the score ticking. The aggressive batsmen were finally dismissed and the scoring slowed, the bowlers began to get on top with Bradley Hunter bowled well again taking two wickets in his second spell and Bradley Boehm brilliantly taking 3/16 in a 7 over spell that gave the lads a chance to keep the opposition under 200. Unfortunately the last wicket proved hard to take and Angaston totalled 9/236 after 40 overs. Their’s not much to be said about the batting and to put it simply the batsmen weren’t good enough on the day. Chris Allen was the only top order batsman to show any resistance scoring 31 not out in an innings that saw the lads rolled for the poor score of 84. The match delivered all of the verbal to and fro that would be expected in a Light Pass – Angaston clash and was generally played in a good competitive manner but only Ango’s batmen turned up so it was all over pretty quickly on Sunday. Thanks to the Tanunda A2 umpires who did a fair job of umpiring the match having being put into the uncomfortable position of having to referee their own grade. The “Davies Labour Hire” man of the match was Bradley Boehm. A3’s – After finishing the minor round in second place the 3’s played Tanunda at Angaston on Saturday and Sunday. Tanunda batted first and got off to a solid start before Nick Liddell broke through with a couple of wickets. Opening bowler Mark John went down injured after only 3 overs and that put the pressure on the rest of the Light Pass line up, but lead by Nick who bowled a mammoth 25 overs 3/59 the attack held up Tanunda and eventually bowled them out for 149. Bryce Mathews was good with the ball taking 2/13, as was Chris Sims who took 2/27 after a wonky start. The fielders were enthusiastic and this helped the bowlers to keep Tanunda under wraps. Jimmy miller and Ed Milne both picked up one wicket each. With a reasonable batting line up that’s been in form the baggy greens should have been able to chase down the total but as so often happens in final the pressure took its toll and a combination of poor running and rash shots resulted in the lads being rolled for only 77 runs in what was a disappointing end to a really good season for the A3’s. Congratulations to the 3’s for making the final after coming up from 4’s and proving to themselves that they can compete at that level. The “Schiller Vineyards” man of the match was Nick Liddell.
