Duckpond Bill - 21st November
There were some good results for the club on the weekend with the U16’s once again putting in a strong performance and two of the three senior sides winning their matches.  Saturday night was also the club’s Rump and Red dinner, although number of those attending were down it was still a successful and enjoyable evening.  The Wine and goods auction provided some lively bidding and many thank go to Ed Milne who was the auctioneer.  The Food was great and the wine smooth (well mostly) and an extra big thanks go to Chris Hausler and his team of helpers who cooked the steaks beautifully under some difficult condition, well done!

A1’s – The A1’s played Nuri at Nuri on the weekend in a one-day match after rain once again made play impossible the previous week.
Skipper Sam Schmidt won the toss and elected to bat first.  A golden duck to Dimi Camilleri provided the worst possible start to the innings but Steven Hill and Richard Mattner steadied the ship and were slowly building a partnership before Hilly was trapped LBW for 16.  Wade Gripton joined Richard and the pair saw the side to drinks for the loss of only two wickets.  Unfortunately the runrate was modest and it was going to take some aggressive play to post a competitive score against last years premiers.  After the break disaster struck when the side lost 3 wickets in 3 overs putting real pressure on the rest of the line up.  Wade batted patiently with several partners before being bowled for 32.  Mick Braunack attacked hard and hit 30 valuable runs late in the innings and Tommy Gerlach also kept the runs coming making 17 before being bowled on the last ball of the innings.  The final score of 144 was going to be tough to defend but it could have been much worse.
An early wicket to Dimi Camo got the defence off to the right start but the next two partnerships were hard to break and the runrate was high enough to have the Baggy Greens score covered.  A Great spell of bowling by Wade Gripton gave the lads some hope as he return figures of 1/14 from his 8 overs and probably deserved more wickets.  Mick Braunack was also solid with the ball taking 3/41.
The team just didn’t have enough runs on the board and Nuri passed the total with 6 overs to spare, and some late hitting pushed their final total to 203.
The man of the match was Mick Braunack.

A2’s – The Wanderer’s also played Nuri on the weekend at Stockwell Park main oval.  Nuri batted first and were put to the sword by the baggy greens bowlers.
Syd Miller opened up with Brad Hunter and both bowled brilliantly, Syd took 1/9 from 6 overs while Bradley was nigh on unplayable from the other end taking 2/21.  An improved effort in the field allowed the bowlers to keep up the pressure and Mick Baumann took full advantage snaring 3/25 from his 8 overs in a great effort with the ball.  Bradley Boehm also joined in the fun, bowling with his usual flare taking 3/12 and ending any hope Nuri had of a come back.  Two of the old reliables in Andrew Nash and Simon Davies were left to do the fielding the pair only bowled 4 overs between them while the young baggy green bowlers did the damage.  In the end Nuri were bowled for 85 runs.
With a low total to chase the lads were confident of victory but Skipper Simon Davies instructions were clear “bat 40 overs”.  Despite an early wicket the top order did well with Paul Braunack (24) and Simon Davies (45) doing most of the damage but what looked like an easy chase took a turn with several quick wickets putting the side under pressure and in the end the batsmen limped past Nuri’s total 6 wickets down they were then quickly bowled out for 96 runs in a disappointing effort with the bat.  Thankfully the bowlers got the job done and the Wanderers recorded their 3rd win of the season.  The man of the match was Bradley Boehm.

A4’s – The A4’s finally opened their account on the weekend with their first win of the season, defeating Truro at Stockwell No.2.
The lads lost the toss and were sent into bat first.  The first few overs were slow going as Brad Ellbourn and Jimmy Braunack saw off the new ball in a solid 66 run opening stand, Jimmy made 13 before being caught.
Brad was joined by Jeremy Gore and the pair lifted the run rate scoring 95 runs in 15 overs taking the score to 161 with a couple of overs to go when Jeremy was caught for 56.  Brad’s excellent innings came to an end the following over when he was caught for a magnificent 86 runs. With precious few balls remaining the batsmen went the tonk and gifted Truro with a couple of late wickets but the total of 169 was their best effort of the season so far.
There was plenty of work to be done with the ball if the Baggy Green’s wished to defend their total and Skipper Brad Ellbourn tried an unusual tactic when he opened up with leg spinner Chris Sims along side the more conventional choice of Dan Hausler.  Both bowled well and took wickets early, but Truro rallied with a good partnership and it was game on again.  The introduction of Bryce Mathews to the attack halted Truro’s charge as he took 2 important wickets in a tight spell.  Chris Sim’s second spell was a cracker taking 3 wickets and crushing the Ram’s middle order while good spells from Matt Kleemann and Justin Sparks helped keep the runrate low.  Chris Sims final figures of 4/23 from 8 overs were the key to the innings as the boys in the baggy green restricted Truro to 9/123 to claim victory.
The man of the match was Jeremy Gore.
