Duckpond Bill - 4th December
A strong performance from the A2’s was the highlight of the weekends cricket, but some pointers to the future were also on display with several youngsters debuting in the A1 side, and the club fielding one of their youngest ever A4 sides. A1’s – The A1s faced top 4 side Tanunda at Stockwell. After the first week was washed out, Light Pass found themselves several players short with the A2s halfway through a game meaning captain Sam Schmidt hunted far and wide to field a side. This led to Jeremy Gore, Dylan Schmidt and Chris Sims all making their A1 debuts, Chris Allen was also brought into the side. Light Pass won the toss and elected to bowl on a pitch appearing to have bit of life in it following the recent wet weather.  Sam Schmidt and Tim Taylor opened the bowling, both bowling without luck, and it took Mick Braunack to be brought into the attack to see the first wicket fall. A direct hit from the fence from debutant Chris Sims had the side up and about, and another wicket to Wade Gripton had the visitors 3/76. A steadying partnership saw Tanunda reach 4/137 before pushing on to reach 7/192. Mick Braunack claimed another 2 to finish with 3, while Richard Mattner and Sam Schmidt also picked up wickets. Chris Sims also bowled several good overs in his A1 debut, and will take plenty from the experience.
Steven Hill and Mick Braunack got the innings underway, with Mick leading the way with some lusty hitting getting the side off to a quick start, Mick managed to knock his bail off (hit wicket) and finished with 31 of a 40 run opening stand. This triggered several quick wickets to fall and the side was needing to fight at 4/66. A partnership between Chris Allen and Martin Gallasch started to right the ship before Marty outsmarted himself to fall with the score at 90. Jeremy Gore joined Chris Allen and the pair tok the score to 138 before Chris was out for 30. Jeremy pushed on as wickets fell around him and can hold his head high with a well compiled 29 on debut. In the end, Light Pass found themselves 32 runs short of the required total, but all players should be proud of the fight shown given the forced changes to the side and thanks to all those players who stepped up at short notice. The Stockwell Hotel Man of the Match went to Mick Braunack for his 3 wickets and 31 runs.A2’s – The Wanderers  set out to defend the 325 runs they had put in the bank last week, prompting  captain Simon Davies to employ some aggressive field placements in an attempt to take early wickets. The Schlungers efforts to chase down the Light Pass total lasted all of six overs, before a Brad Hunter wicket had them shutting up shop for the day. The remainder of the day became a slow affair, and at one stage rumour has it grass was seen growing, and paint seen drying. But not only were runs extremely hard to come by, but wickets also proved to be elusive, and after 63 long overs Greenock returned to the pavilion with 126 on the board, but only 3 wickets down.  All bowlers used bowled tightly (Bryce Matthews and Bradley Boehm conceded a miserly 18 runs off their 15 overs bowled), but Brad Hunter (2/29 off 13) and Andrew Nash (1/24 off 13) the only wicket takers. Man of the match was Simon Davies for his 73 with the bat.A4’s –A young A4 side (and Mick Gerhardy providing plenty of experience) faced Tanunda at Faith.  Justin Sparks had the ball moving early and found the edge to have Tanunda 1/18. Tanunda then consolidated and took the score to 94 before Mick Gerhardy was introduced into the attack, and despite and expensive first over was able to do some damage to Tanunda’s middle order, claiming 4/29 off 6 overs. Matt Kleemann, Mitch Laubsch and Travis Schiller in his first game for the season all chimed in with wickets to have Tanunda teetering at 8/138 and playing one man short, but the last wicket didn’t come and Tanunda pushed on to a strong 8/188.
The run chase started badly with Jimmy Braunack out early, however Mick Gerhardy found allies in Kyle Hammerling and Travis Schiller with the bat, unfortunately no other batsmen hit double figures. Travis Schiller top scored with 29 not out, while Mick and Kyle both reached the twenties. However their efforts were not enough and Light Pass  found themselves dismissed for 110 in 25 overs. Man of the Match went to Mick Gerhardy for his 4 wickets and 21 runs.
