|
The A1's again failed to get a start, while the A2's and A4's put in solid efforts.
A1's – The A1's were scheduled to play Sandy Creek on the weekend but an Irrigation mishap resulted in the first days play being cancelled due to a wet pitch at Sandy Creek and the match will be played as a one day match next week. A2's – The “Wanderers” played the first week of their last home game on the season taking on second placed Sandy Creek at Stockwell Main on Saturday. Skipper Simon Davies won the toss and elected to bat first on a moist Stocky deck. Sandy Creeks bowlers were using the conditions well and scoring took a back seat to survival in the first session. The opening batsmen fought back after the drinks break and it look as if a big first wicket partnership may be on the cards before Paul Braunack was run out after a mix up between the wickets with the score on 42. The next few partnerships failed to blossom as the batsmen did the hard work only to be dismissed before they could put much on the score board. Tim Rowbottom added another 31 run innings to his tally, backing up on his recent good form. The lads were in need of a good partnership to get a competitivee total on the board and it came via Andy Davidson and Mathew Mattner who put on nearly 50, taking the score into triple figures before Malibu smacked one straight to point. Andrew Nash Joined Andy Davidson and the pair continued putting runs on the board. Nashy made a valuable 38 battling an injury while Andy Davidson was the backbone of the innings with 50. The tailenders struggled with Sandy's inform strike bowler and the side was bowled out for 188 with only 9 balls remaining in the innings. A5's – The 5's took on Tanunda at Faith Oval on the weekend and Batted first against a bolstered Tanunda outfit. Brad Ellbourn led the top order scoring 18, but with out a lot of support from the other batsmen the score soon slumped to 5/48 shortly after the drinks break. Dylan Schmidt once again showed his fighting quality scoring an innings high score of 26 before edging one to the keeper. The ever improving Nigel Koop chipped in with 12 and Dan Hausler contributed with 15 runs as the side scraped together 102 runs from their 40 overs. Dan Hausler and Bradley Boehm opened the bowling for the boys in the Baggy Green and did a fantastic job of suppressing Tanunda's top order but wickets were hard to come by and at the 20 over make the match was finely balanced with the score on 1/40. Dan took a wicket in his second over giving him figures of 1/14 from his 8 overs, while BB returned 0/13 from his 8 over spell. The match looked like it was going to be tight when Justin Sparks removed Tanunda's other opener, but a devastating surge saw the “Blockies” score 34 runs in 2 overs without loss, putting the match firmly in their pockets. Brad Ellbourn took one more wicket before the total was reached with 9 overs to go. The “Stockwell Hotel” man of the match was Dylan Schmidt. |
