Duckpond Bill - 19th February |
|
Fridays rain put an end to the A1's weekend before it even go going with a soggy pitch unable to be brought up for a game. The A5's had the bye this week so the A2 Wanderers were the only side to get a days play on Saturday and they probably wish they hadn't.
The A2's travelled to the Dog Track to play 4th placed Gawler Central. Recent history between these two sides is interesting as the win ratio would be nearly even but rarely have the matches been close. Skipper Simon Davies lost the toss and the boys in the baggy green were sent out to have a bat. The going was tough early with accurate bowling and a slow outfield making scoring difficult and matters got worse when both openers were dismissed in the early stages of the match. The batsmen struggled to get going and although they occupied the crease for a while never put the runs on the board as the side crashed to 4/16. Matty Mattner and Andrew Nash combined to turn things around but the pressure was right on the batmen and Matty came unstuck on 17. With the total on a woeful 7/54 Ryan Schiller joined Nashy at the crease and the pair put together a face saving 55 run partnership getting the score past 100 before Ryan was trapped LBW for a well made 30, Nashy followed soon after looking for quick runs for 37. and the last wicket didn't take long to fall either leaving the lads with a shaky total on 112. Central faced 11 over before stumps and accumulated 33 runs (mostly in the first over) for the loss of one wicket. Big job next week lads. |
